Director Biography

Headshot_-_Octav_1Octav Chelaru (b. 1991) is a film director and screenwriter. Without formal film studies, he started his career by directing music videos and commercials while studying Computer Science.

His first short film, False Positive (2015), slowly facilitated his entry in the film industry. The film was projected in Timișoara, Piatra-Neamț, Berlin and Tallin. His next short film, Occupied (2016) won Best Romanian Short in Timișoara and was screened în Poznan and Bucharest.

This award opened the way for the third short, Private Party (2017), which won multiple preproduction awards and grants. Black Clothes (2017) is his first short film made with the support of the Romanian National Film Fund. Currently, Octav Chelaru is working on his debut feature, called Balaur.
