Schedule of Events
The Tallahassee Film Festival will encompass a variety of film-related activities spanning a three-day period of time in May of 2008. Selected venues that utilize technologically appropriate sites located near the heart of Tallahassee will host the screenings. Screenings will occur at Museum of Florida History, Heritage Hall Auditorium (first floor), R. A. Gray Building, All Saints Cinema, the Student Life Cinema at FSU, the FSU Film School Mix Theater, and the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at FAMU. The location of venues was carefully thought out in an attempt to draw visitors (residents and non-residents alike) to the downtown/Gaines Street area and assist with another Initiative, Get Gaines Going. The planned schedule of events is as follows:
Thursday, May 15, 2008:
- Premiere screening @ the FSU Askew Student Life Center
- VIP and Sponsor Reception at 621 Gallery in Railroad Square (Invitation Only)
Friday, May 16, 2008:
- Simultaneous film screenings throughout the afternoon and evening at FSU Askew Student Life Center, FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication Lecture Hall, Heritage Hall at the R.A. Gray Building, and All Saints Cinema
- StarFest/Downtown Get Down: A downtown get-down styled community-wide event to take place over several downtown city blocks. Activities include: open-air screenings, music, talent contest, vendors, and exhibits. If you are interested in performing at the Downtown Get Down, click here to view the Open Call Contest (PDF)
- “A Report from the Trenches” will feature writer/director/producer Eric Nicholas and Lee Ann Campbell, head of Blue Ridge Motion Picture at 11 AM in the Turner Auditorium.
Saturday, May 17, 2008:
- Simultaneous film screenings throughout the afternoon and evening at FSU Askew Student Life Center, FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication Lecture Hall, Heritage Hall at the R.A. Gray Building, and All Saints Cinema
- The Florida State University Film School will host seminars in University Center Building A as follows:
- 10:00 am – A2104 – Sound Re-Recording Mixing – Richard Portman
- 10:00 am – A2101 – Film Festival Strategies – Kathy Barber
- 2:00 pm – A2101 - Directing for Film and Television/Working with Writers – Chip Chalmers
- 2:00 pm – A2102 – Filmmakers Forum – Dialogue with filmmakers – Dave Schmeling, Moderator
- “It’s A Wrap!” party and closing ceremony at Mary Brogan Museum of Art & Science at 7 PM , along with the presentation of the following awards: the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented along with Audience Choice; Narrative Feature; Narrative Short; Documentary Feature; Documentary Short; Animated; and, College Student (Invitation Only)
