Absent, a documentary about disengaged fathers, to be screened at TFF

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Director Justin Hunt and Metallica front man interviewed on national news program

Be sure to check out Justin Hunt, director of Absent, on Fox & Friends: http://fxn.ws/eQPTr2. He appeared with James Hetfield of Metallica, one of the stars of the documentary.

Hunt is presenting Absent at the Tallahassee Film Festival Saturday, April 9 at 3PM at the Regal Miracle 5 Theatre. He and music supervisor, Michael Davenport will be available for a Q & A session after the film.

A father of two himself, Hunt’s Absent is a documentary concerning disengaged fathers and the mark they are making on our global society and the future of our planet.

“Nothing is more important to a young man, or a young woman, than a father’s love, respect and acceptance. And nothing is more damaging than when the question ‘Am I good enough?’ is asked of the father by the child, and the answer is silence,” said Hunt.

Tallahassee Film Festival Calling All Something Wild Film Alumnae

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

TFF offering free Something Wild film tickets to locals who were involved in the film

Tallahassee, FL – The Tallahassee Film Festival (TFF) will launch this year’s festival with a special 25th anniversary screening of Jonathan Demme’s film, Something Wild, which was largely filmed in the Tallahassee area in March 1986.  A recently restored print of the film will be shown at the FSU Student Life Cinema on Friday, April 6 with showings at 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. To honor the film and its history in the capital city, TFF adopted a Something Wild theme for its 2011 festival.

“The filming of Something Wild was a landmark event in Tallahassee’s film history,” said Carolyn Smith, Festival Director.  “What better time to celebrate its 25th anniversary than during Tallahassee’s Film Festival?”

The screening will kick off this year’s film festival, which will run from April 6-10 with more than 70 films playing at various locations in Tallahassee.

“We’d like to invite anyone who worked on Something Wild to come to the screening and join in the celebration,” said Kathy Barber.  Barber, a graduate of The Film School at FSU, and Coordinator of the Student Life Cinema, is also wearing many hats in this year’s film festival.  “In addition to the screenings, a Q&A period with a panel of key cast and crew members who worked on the film will be held after the first showing at 9:00 p.m. TFF will also host a reunion reception for locals who worked on the film later that evening.”

Although the quirky 80’s-era road film primarily takes place in New York and New Jersey, the majority of Something Wild was filmed in and around Tallahassee in 1986 when Jonathan Demme was on the cusp of becoming one of the industry’s finest directors.  Taking the art of cinema to new heights, Demme has received critical acclaim for his work in narrative and documentary genres of filmmaking, including a Best Director Oscar for Silence of the Lambs.

Organizers of the event are asking actors, extras, members of the technical crew, those whose cars, pets or houses were used in the film, or anyone who was affiliated with the production, to send an email to info@tallahasseefilmfestival.com or call the film festival office at 850-201-9499. Anyone involved with the film is invited to attend the screening and festivities and their names will be placed on a guest list for complimentary entrance.

On April 6th, general admission tickets to the event are $5, and free for cast and crewmembers of Something Wild. Priority will be given to TFF All-Access Pass Holders, and free admission for students with student IDs at the FSU Student Life Cinema.
