Synopsis

After kissing a stranger, Jenna wakes up to discover a nasty lesion on her lip. The doctor's initial diagnosis suggests a simple cold sore. But further tests reveal a much more sinister cause.

Film Notes

With the Cinematographer Paul Howard winning Gold at the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) in 2010 for his work on Cold Sore, we're proud to premiere this twisted thriller at the Tallahassee Film Festival.

This film screens as part of the Women on the Verge program - a collection of memorable screen women.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:

Embarking on Cold Sore, I wanted to make a character-driven thriller, and to allude to back-story and subtext through visual clues and shot composition. The more I delved into the characters, the more I became fascinated with the power of grief – how it has the potential to darken even the sunniest world, to make us feel incredibly alone in a crowded room... and to push us into self-destructive patterns of behaviour which can often be very dangerous.

Second was to weave those elements into a story with lots of twists and turns and tension. Like a good mystery, I wanted to intrigue the audience and have them pondering questions on a number of different levels as they went along for the ride.
